How it works
We show only what hospitals publish. We take no money from providers.
What we do
- Pull prices directly from hospitals’ federally required machine-readable files.
- Drop placeholders, percent-of-charge formulas, and out-of-range values.
- Label every price with a confidence tier and show where it came from.
- Anchor each procedure to what Medicare pays, from CMS published amounts.
What we don't do
- Take money from hospitals, insurers, or providers to rank or feature them.
- Invent a price, a quality score, or a number we cannot source.
- Show a surgical price table where episodes are defined too differently to compare honestly.
- Promote the cheapest option as the best one. Cheapest is not safest.
What the confidence tiers mean
- high
- A validated dollar cash price AND validated negotiated dollar rates, all sanity checks passed.
- medium
- Validated dollar rates, but incomplete — for example a negotiated range without a published cash price.
- range_only
- Only a dollar range could be validated; the hospital publishes formulas or sparse data. Shown with loud caveats.
